New Life Project offers Sunday church services as well as two weekly Bible studies-one for men, one for women-designed for persons struggling with addictions, who are in the Laclede County Jail.

These activities, led by Christian laypersons, have been ongoing in the County Jail for several years and have been well-supported by both the inmates in their respectful attendance and the jail staff, who have always worked cooperatively with members of New Life over the years.

In February 2005, a new dimension was added with the opening of the New Life House, a transitional house for women as they come out of the Laclede County Jail or other correctional facilities.

The New Life House offers women, wishing to leave behind the life of addiction, a chance to do so in a safe, home atmosphere. There are no bars and any woman who comes to the New Life House, does so with the understanding that this is a special opportunity, that is dependent upon both her honor and her willingness to work hard to make a life, that is drug and alcohol free.

The New Life House has several separate bedrooms. Residents share a kitchen, living room & dining area, laundry and two full bathrooms.

A New Life staff or Board member is on site at all times at the New Life House and residents are encouraged and assisted in several areas, including:

~ Attending their church of choice
~ Finding employment
~ Participating in a Budget Program
~ Continuing in a Bible study
~ Continuing educational pursuits
~ Other classes or counseling as needed by the individual resident
~ Re acclimate participant to their children through Parents as Teachers

Those who choose to be a part of this new venture need to fill out an application and be accepted as a prospective participant by the New Life Board. Once accepted, the participant appeals to the court, through her lawyer to be paroled directly to the New Life House. Each prospective participant signs a contract that outlines exactly what is expected, in terms of her behavior, and makes clear that flagrant violation of that contract will result in an immediate return to jail.

The New Life House is a Christian-based program that is offered to the women involved at no financial cost. As a part of her contract, each woman agrees to respect the rights of others, and behave in a way that allows her to live in acommunity with others. The length of each resident’s stay at the New Life House is determined by her individual needs and the decision of the Associate or Circuit Court Judge.

New Life Project is a 501c3 orgainization (not for profit), formed and operated by a private board of committed caring Christians, from several Laclede County churches. Donations are tax deductible.
